TORONTO — On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Toronto hosted the Forum on Investment and Business Opportunities in Canada (Ontario), Guatemala, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia at the Ontario Investment and Trade Center, 35th Floor, 250 Yonge Street, Toronto. The event was supported by the Taiwan Trade Center, Toronto. The Taiwan Entrepreneurs Society Taipei/Toronto (TESTT) was honoured to attend as an invited delegation, reflecting Taiwanese entrepreneurs’ strong commitment to expanding business opportunities across North America and beyond.

Welcome and closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Yi-Peng Liang (梁毅鵬), Director General of TECO Toronto, while opening remarks were given by Mr. Khawar Nasim, CEO of Invest Ontario. The forum featured presentations by Mr. Theodor Aust, Investor Services Advisor (Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa), and Ms. Jane Wang, Project Lead for Technology & Agrifood at Invest Ontario, who outlined investment and business opportunities in Ontario. Mr. John Allen, Honourary Consul General of St. Kitts and Nevis in Toronto, shared insights under the theme “St. Kitts and Nevis – From Sugar Economy to Sustainable Island State,” while Mr. Henry Mangal, Consul General of Saint Lucia in Toronto, introduced Saint Lucia’s investment and business outlook for 2026.

The TESTT delegation was led by President Johnson Chang (張銓中), and joined by Former President Cindy Fan (湯遠芬), Wayne Fan (范瑋), Honourary Advisor and Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commissioner Maggie Lin (林美玲), Ms. Susan Gong (江文珊), Vice Presidents Mike Chuang (莊甯凱) and Jenny Lee (李育菁), Secretary General Richard Tseng (曾尚志), and several other distinguished members.

Invest Ontario highlighted a comprehensive suite of incentives designed to attract international investors, including:

Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit — a 15% non-refundable corporate income tax credit, with a maximum credit of CAD $3 million on eligible expenditures up to CAD $20 million.

Regional Development Program — financial support and advisory services to help eligible SMEs expand operations.

National Research Council IRAP — advice, connections, and funding for small and medium-sized Canadian businesses pursuing technology-driven innovation and R&D.

SR&ED Tax Credits — combined federal and provincial credits offering up to 66.5% savings on eligible R&D expenditures.

Talent Funding — partnerships with Mitacs and Riipen to support workforce development and experiential learning.

Attendees also learned that Ontario is a powerhouse in advanced manufacturing, contributing CAD $92.4 billion to Canada’s GDP in 2024, ranking as the second-largest vehicle-producing jurisdiction in North America, and home to over 20,500 manufacturing businesses employing more than 800,000 people. In life sciences, Ontario stands as Canada’s #1 jurisdiction, with approximately 2,000 firms, over 74,000 employees, and CAD $11.8 billion in annual goods exports.

The interactive sessions sparked lively engagement from the TESTT delegation. President Johnson Chang expressed keen interest in the Guatemalan specialty coffee tasting and personally conveyed to the Commercial Consul of Guatemala his hope to continue exchanging views after the forum, exploring potential collaboration in the coffee industry. Secretary General Richard Tseng, in turn, raised forward-looking questions to Invest Ontario regarding certification and licensing requirements for prefabricated construction (prefab) — an emerging sector gaining rapid traction across North America. Invest Ontario representatives provided detailed responses and committed to follow-up engagement, underscoring TESTT’s strategic vision in identifying new growth industries.

At the conclusion of the forum, the TESTT delegation extended its sincere appreciation to Director General Yi-Peng Liang and TECO Toronto for their thoughtful organisation and gracious invitation. President Johnson Chang remarked that TESTT looks forward to participating in more international economic and trade forums of this calibre in the future. Such platforms, he noted, are invaluable in introducing the unity and collective strength of the Taiwanese business community to mainstream Canadian business circles, thereby raising the visibility and influence of Taiwanese enterprises across North America and the Caribbean region.

By bridging Canada, Guatemala, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Taiwan, the forum enables Taiwanese businesses to leverage Canada’s proximity to the Caribbean and Latin America for faster logistics, lower costs, and access to new markets. The Taiwan Entrepreneurs Society Taipei/Toronto (TESTT) reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with TECO Toronto and the Taiwan Trade Center to help member enterprises seize global opportunities and strengthen Taiwan–Canada economic ties.
